The challenge
Staff had to look in several places to find policies, procedures, and reference material, because much of it lived in systems outside Microsoft 365. Intranet search only covered SharePoint, so people often missed what they needed.
What I did
- Designed and built a custom Microsoft Graph search connector that brings content from external systems into the Microsoft 365 search index, with permissions and metadata preserved.
- Built a search centre on PnP Modern Search, with custom verticals, refiners, and result templates, so people can narrow results quickly.
- Extended the experience with SPFx and React customizations where the out-of-the-box web parts fell short.
The result
One search box on the intranet now covers both SharePoint and the connected systems, and results respect the same access rules as the source data.
